radlilim: (Gen I'm fine)
I think I'm loosing interest in doing art for fanworks. Not sure why exactly, but the problems I've had with contacting authors, authors dropping out, and being inspired by the latest works has something to do with it. I am currently only in the Teen Wold Big Bang, and I'm not really sure I'm going to enter any more. This is the first year in 4 (5?) years I haven't joined the Supernatural Big Bang.

Actually I'm like 8 episodes behind on watching Supernatural. And I kinda miss it, but life is just too busy and stressful to bother with trying to keep up with shows. I'm almost up to date with SHIELD, Flash and Arrow, but TV in all seems like too much work. If I have free time, I try and read, and I don't have time for that any more either. I've been on the first Shanara book for a month now, 700 some pages should not take me that long.

I think I'm just worn out in general, and I don't see that getting better for at least a year.

Wow, that's an unhappy thought.

I joined the Supernatural Big Bang again this year. I really enjoyed the story, cool tie in with a few smaller characters and I loved the mix with the Greek/Roman gods. Check out the story above.

Title: Rising and Falling
Prompt Number: 1057
Notes: Created for the 2014 Supernatural Reverse Big Bang. Concept is an angelic Dean is consoling a fallen Castiel. I had an author choose it, drop out, and then a pinch writer step in, and then drop out also. So, no story, just art.

Artist name: [livejournal.com profile] jkivela
Pairing: Dean/OMC, brief Dean/OFC
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: minor character death, some violence/gore, minor infidelity
Summary: With Sam at Stanford and John on a case of his own, Dean goes on the hunt for a creature that leaves loved ones without the memories of its victims. He doesn't manage to find the monster but in the meantime he does manage to meet an attractive young woman. Dean spends the night with her, but the next day he discovers that it's her brother he is is most attracted to. However, hunters don't stay in one place for long, and with no case to keep him in town, Dean can only imagine what could have happened between them. Almost a decade later, in another town in another state, Sam and Dean find themselves on a case that seems familiar to Dean. When he sees a familiar face, he thinks it can't be a coincidence.

I finished Glimpses, the Nightrunner shorts by Lynn Flewelling today. I picked it up with birthday money. It was good. Nice back story insights to the characters. I've been wanting it for a while now, happy I picked it up. And the preview of the next book was exciting, looks like it's less "one of the two boys gets kidnapped," and more like the stories about them I like.

rating: A

I also picked up the Supernatual Anime series. 21 episodes! I've watched the first one. It seems to be mostly rewrites of season 1 and 2 episodes, with some new ones as well. I wish Jensen had voiced Dean for all of it, but it was good. And having Dean doing the leg-guitar pose from Eye of the Tiger as the closing screen was great. I'm looking forward to the rest of them. I'll post another review about that at the end.

We are caught up with American Horror Story. It's pretty good. Not too gory, which I don't like. Zachery Quitino is pretty awesome as a bitchy queen. We've also started Grimm and Once Upon a Time. We'll have to see if we keep with Grimm, need more episodes to tell. Once Upon a Time is engaging.

Under Ruby's guidance, Sam learns how to use his powers with a single-minded fury and an intention for vengeance. As he finally begins to come to terms with the fact that Dean is never coming back, Ruby throws a wrench into his hard-earned acceptance: In the sixty seconds the Devil's Gate was open, a few lucky souls escaped.

Art notes:

Here is my art for the 2011 Supernatural Big Bang. I tried a new technique, which I think worked well. Normally "painting" in Photoshop gave me the same issues I have with normal painting, which is getting a hard line where I want one. And while I can get a hard line in a vector program, I like how you can blend better in a raster based program. This time I outlined/traced the areas that I wanted to be defined in Illustrator, then pasted those shapes into Photoshop and used them to help delete the unwanted pixels after "painting".

Anyway, turned out well, I think. I made a cover and a full size image:

I got to see the first episode of the new season of Dr Who. I bit sad, but I've noticed that is common with this Doctor. Looking forward to the second part, though the plot jumping gives me a bit of a headache.

Wild West Supernatural was funny and cute. Lots of time travel this season. Almost too much.

I hadn't planned to pick up the Warbler's album that came out this week. I had over half of the tracks as it was and didn't really like most of the ones I didn't have. But it was like $2.50 to "complete my album", which is a lot cheeper than buying them all separate. I haven't listened to the new stuff yet. I want to see tonight's episode--and Somewhere Only We Know--before I listen to it. I think I can watch it tomorrow night.

Running on Sunday really caused my back muscles to seize up, I've been sore and had a horrible headache for two days now. I hope it goes away. Need to stretch, do yoga and run more to this won't happen anymore.

Last two days of work have been mind numbingly boring. Stuff that needs to be done, but I've been doing the easier grunt work, since I'm not fully trained on the more challenging and interesting things. Tis part of the process.

Meta-Supernatural was funny. Cringe-worthy to watch at times, with their "bad" acting, but hilarious. Misha was just awesome.

Today got even better, man I hope this doesn't lead to badness.

One of the book blogs I follow, JoJo's Book Corner, had a Dean Day contest. Which is something she did last year on valentine's day. Instead of celebrating V-day, she celebrates the hottness of Dean WInchester. I won John Winchester's Journal by commenting. I like her reviews and she has good contests. I've kinda wanted that book for a while now. Can't wait for it to arrive.

I didn't know the Web 2.0 was so simple to understand. Like how I use it all the time. Time to add that buzz word to my resume.

I'm trying to decide what to spend my tax return on. We decided we can each of a little of the money for ourselves, since it's been a stressful few months (like eight of them). I'd like some iTunes money so I can get more music (mostly Glee tracks). I'd also like the extended version of Avatar and Supernatural season 5. And a new hoodie. Choices, choices.

I have an interview for a real job!

Only took six months of applying. I guess in this economy that's not too bad. It's a phone interview next week for a company that dose catalogs for hardware and lumber and stuff. But it's graphic design. No idea on pay or what not, but just the fact that someone liked my application and resume enough to talk to me is a good thing.

I should be getting my business cards next week. That is cool. I still need to post pictures of them.

We actually had all four of the people who are scheduled to work in my area of the post office in today. And none of us were drug to another area. This means we got all of our work done over two hours earlier than normal. Crazy what having enough competent people can do.

I think another of my games is dying again. This makes me sad as I was just going to bring in a new character. I'll have to keep my eye open for a replacement.

Well I have a few more chores to do and than off to the mall for the night shift. I think I have an episode of Supernatural to watch.

I had another short shift last night at the post office. I'll still get 40 hours in this week, since I work 6 days, but I'd like more hours. Just not enough mail. I get Christmas day off, and the day after. I have somethings to do around the house, hopefully I can get them done. And work at the mall Sunday morning and finally play D&D again that night.

I'm still looking forward to the Supernatural Anime, especially since it looks like Jensen and Jared host the DVD. I wonder how long until we can get it in the states.
