We got to see The Hobbit last night, late showing but totally worth it. I liked it, overall.

spoilers? )

I've been asked to help out in production again today. I've got stuff to do, but nothing really pressing, so it's off to create books again.

Captain America is my favorite Avengers movie so far. It had a great story, IMO, good characters, nice (but subtle) effects. Chris Evans dose a good job. I like how he actually had comic books written about him.

Sucker Punch on the other had was very depressing. It was interesting, the effects were awesome. A very interesting take on the whole concept of surviving and how one can do that, even if it's just in their mind. Bud very sad.

I'll preface this with: I have lower standards on movies than most. Entertained = good.

I don't think Green Lantern is as bad as most people say it is. To be fair, I'm not an expert on the canon or the history, but I was entertained. I love Ryan Reynolds and enjoy almost anything he is in. Sexy + snarky = awesome. Back to the movie, I thought the effects were true to what I've seen in the comics and cartoons of GL that I've seen. I thought the aliens were cool, and varied. I thought that the display of the Green power was cheesy, just like in the comics. I'm not sure how much the story line has been changed, but I thought it was decent. Though why the Lanterns didn't just throw the bad guy into a sun the first time dose beg to be questioned.

My face has been aching all day, giving me a horrible headache. Being in pain makes me grumpy. Always has, and I think it's an OK reaction. However not a good mood to be in when one is doing customer service. I'm pretty sure I pulled out the fake smile and happy voice all day when needed.

[livejournal.com profile] exarian lent me The Hunger Games, I finished it in like 2 days. It was good, a nice easy read, though I could have done without the romantic part. Starting Catching Fire now, though the first one seemed pretty complete. The second one will probably be good, but I don't think it will be similar, more political, not sure what else they could do. That's all a guess though, I'll let you know after I finish it.

I have watch Iron Man 1 & 2 and Thor now. I'm ready for Capt. when it comes out. Then will be caught up for Avengers (does one need to see Hulk?). Iron man was fun, though I prefer my superheros to have powers. Was never a fan of batman either. Thor was kinda cool, nice mythos. Sexy. Too many clothes.

And happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] anothersuperboy, hope you had a great one.

Harry Potter 7.2 was good. I liked it. My only complaint was that Harry seemed to have a varying amount of stubble from scene to scene, even in the same sequence. But that is a minor point. Dan was great, I love Maggie and Alan. It had a slightly slower/sadder feel than 7.1, which is good for the end of a series like this.

We went to the 3:15am showing at the IMAX to see it in 3D. I napped from 11ish to 1:30, then we went to stand in line for an hour, and we were not early at all. But we got OK seats and the crowd was not annoying. The 3D was well done, used in a good amount. It added to the experience, it was rarely used just 'cause it was cool.

We got home at 6am, I napped again until 9am, and was into work by 10. It was a lot busier than I expected, mostly because one of the projects I had was a lot more complicated than I had expected. Plus both projects I had to do today were due at 3pm, not 5 like I planned (but only because the project managers needed to leave). So I skipped lunch, which is very rare for me. Now I'm at the mall, and will enjoy Covert Affairs soon. Tomorrow is more mall work and mowing if it's not too hot. And Sunday I'm taking off, except for going to volleyball.

Oh yeah, I start full time work on Monday. The temping span is over, and I accepted the job offer they gave me. It's a little lower than what I was making at Laserwords, but more than when I was on furlough days. Two weeks vacation starting out and a week of sick time. And if I don't use the sick time, it gets paid out to me. I'm looking forward to more normal paychecks again.

The weekend was nice. Drove up Friday with my cousin Nate and his GF Courtney. Saturday was pretty low key, saw mom, dad, and grandma, cleaned for the party a bit, feel asleep on the boat for two hours and got sun burnt. Sunday we helped set up for the party, greeted guests and family as they arrived and then spent a lot of time playing with Jack. He loved the gifts we got him. He figured out the matching games we got him pretty fast and then spent the day walking around with the two dinosaurs under each arm telling people he has "A brontosaurus and a 'ceritops from uncle Jason". Yeah, he's 2 and knows his dinosaurs, he rocks.

I'm hoping to get up there at least one or two times before Laura and co. head off to their next destination. Then we will see them out in Montana and for a weekend when they come to Madison to visit.

Softball went OK. I'm still walking too many people when I pitch, I need to find the time to practice. Next week Jess will try pitching and give me the first chance in like four years to play somewhere else on the field.

Super busy at work. Getting "interesting" juggling work and all of this eBook research and set up.

We got to see Scott Pilgrim last night. Loved it. It was cute and funny and had tons of smart little jokes and geek nods. I'm not sure why people didn't like it, probably too geeky for them. I really loved Wallace, the gay roommate. He was just a normal guy who likes other guys. No flaming, bitchiness or being a queen. Just a sarcastic gay guy slight focused on sex. Sounds like a lot of the people I hang out with.

Alla Salute!, a web short on YouTube with Allen Hyde (Godric form Ture Blood) is really funny and cute. Good to see him doing something, I hope he dose make it back for an episode or two this next season. Suggested by [livejournal.com profile] anothersuperboy

I don't think I posted about my annoying customer from Thrusday at the mall. He came over from Macy's complaining that they didn't have the watch he wanted. He was looking for a "grandpa's watch". All gold, including the face, a bit tacky. We had a few options and he picked one out to try on. He puts it on, takes a step back and lets his arm hang down. His sleeve then slips over the watch, and with an annoyed sigh he says, "This is what you get from buying a suit from someone who can't tailor it. But since it was only a $100 in Bangkok, I guess I can't complain." Then while checking out the watch more he asks if the hands glow in the dark. I say yes and he replies, "Ha Ha Ha, perfect, cause what I need to be able to do is check the time in my limo with the lights off."

Really? Why is he trying to impress the watch store clerk? :eye roll:

I had a pretty good breakfast today, I recreated McDonald's oatmeal. I heard a commercial again yesterday and it sounded good. Nothing to exciting, just brown sugar and maple syrup in my oatmeal, topped with apple pieces, cranberries, and almonds. I'd have liked raisins too, but we are out. Of course my version wasn't undercooked and watery like McD's.

Today my goal is to learn JavaScript. There is a temp job with Robert Half Tech that I'm interested in, and knowing JavaScript would help me get the job, I think. I have one book from O'Reilly, hopefully it'll do the trick.

I've figured out why I don't really like Cast Macabre. The stories are good, like I said, and so is the production. I just don't really like the stories. They are horror, but there is barely and supernatural, fantasy or sci-fi aspect to them. They deal with human horror, just people being evil to each other, the darker side of human nature. Not my thing. Best of luck to them, but I think I'll take it off my list.

Today will also be a Lord of the Rings marathon, as back ground noise.

This looks pretty awesome, the "lead" is kinda cute too.

The ulcer is acting up again, most likely due to the stress. Life is pretty scary right now. I've never been unemployed (from a full time job) since I left college. I have the 2 part time ones right now, but that's not nearly enough to live on. I'm not sure what we will do, except hope that I can find a new job before my severance pay runs out.

I made my first weekend morning bus trip to the mall today. It's getting pretty cold out, waiting at the stops. I have figured out a faster route for next time.

Yesterday finished up well. We went out to eat at Monty's Blue Plate Dinner, good food as always. Then we met up with some people at the Malt House. I have a slight headache from too much mead. Just had french toast for breakfast, checked email quick and now back to bed for a nap.

We think we have a plan for what we will do Halloween. We'll see if things fall through or not. Something with potential fun will happen, for sure.

I hope to read, catch up on Supernatural, watch Avatar and maybe do some freelance art today. But if some of that doesn't get done, no big deal.

Hope everyone is well.
