The Crown Conspiracy, by Michael Sullivan was well done. It had Nathan Lowell reading it, who is always a pleasure to listen to. The story was well done, though he did use some tropes I'm overly familiar with. A few of the characters seemed thrown in just for plot points or info dumps, and then walked off screen. But I think they were set ups for future books. The short preview we got at the end for the forth coming second book was cool and seemed to have more depth. It was good writing, fun characters, and an interesting conspiracy plot. Solid fantasy writing, I recommend it.

rating: B+

We had dinner at K Pepper, a newish Korean restaurant on the west side. It was a bit over priced. The atmosphere was well done and the food was fine. We had a white guy with a blonde beard for a waiter, which we both thought was a little weird. It was a nice dinner, but not worth driving to the other side of town for.

Did I mention I joined a new RP game? It's run by Gwen, X-men universe, but set in the 1960s. Any character can be played, make your own cannon. I've got Bobby Drake and Alex Summers to start. Kinda slow going though. Seems like a good group of people, I'm hoping the slowness is from busy schedules and InsaneJounral being down a lot. If the game goes well it'd be nice to pick up a few more characters. Piotor as part of the Russian mafia and/or Warren as a high society millionaire might be fun.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow, no work anywhere. I think I get to relax, do what I want and get some exercise in.

A game I'm sure I'll be joining, run by [livejournal.com profile] graeae. Please think about joining if you like Caprica:

So here is my game announcement.

I am moderating (solo) a new game called Ironangel, on IJ and set in the Caprica universe. It's quite definitely an AU. No one needs to know the canon to play--what you need to have is an interest in one or more of the following topics (not necessarily all):

* Robots
* Science Fiction
* Virtual Realities
* Intricate Family Structures
* Mafia-like Organizations
* Complex Underworld
* Planetary Travel
* Religious & Social Conflict
* Politics
* Tattoos (okay, maybe not necessarily this one but they're awesome)

In fact, the best way to sum up the elements of what I really love about the Caprica universe is this fanvid located here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLuaEquklnw (At least, look at 1:26 or so for an epic game of roulette. It's short.)

So, if you're interested, I have a mostly-complete website here at http://www.ironangel.net.

I haven't filled in all the blanks yet, particularly in areas like politics, because if I get players who would like to flesh that out, I am all about discussing how that could work. My tentative plan is to begin reviewing applications on the Ides of March and to open the game itself on April 16th.

That's it. Feel free to spread the word as you like, if you like, to whomever you like.

I have an interview for a real job!

Only took six months of applying. I guess in this economy that's not too bad. It's a phone interview next week for a company that dose catalogs for hardware and lumber and stuff. But it's graphic design. No idea on pay or what not, but just the fact that someone liked my application and resume enough to talk to me is a good thing.

I should be getting my business cards next week. That is cool. I still need to post pictures of them.

We actually had all four of the people who are scheduled to work in my area of the post office in today. And none of us were drug to another area. This means we got all of our work done over two hours earlier than normal. Crazy what having enough competent people can do.

I think another of my games is dying again. This makes me sad as I was just going to bring in a new character. I'll have to keep my eye open for a replacement.

Well I have a few more chores to do and than off to the mall for the night shift. I think I have an episode of Supernatural to watch.

I forgot how nice it is to pour pages in a nice simple monograph. Text books tend to be full of problems and special cases and issues. But monographs are just nice a clean design, a few images, maybe a table if we are getting crazy. I really haven't had to do any of that here, not since Apex. I'm helping with someone else's project today and getting to work on some art history pages, which are very monograph like.

Having some issues coming up with character ideas for the new game I'll apping for. One character is like a duplicate of someone else's character (on accident, we both just had the same basic idea). The other was so far off the mark on matching the world setting I have to scrap and start over. I want to do a Druid, but ideas just aren't coming. Might have to rethink, drastically. I'm hoping teaming up with another player might help me figure it out.

I wish I was up in the Twin Ciites with my mom and family. Oh well, I'll see them on father's day instead. Long, weird weekend, these furlough days throw me off.

My new online game has started, hopefully it will rock as much as I"m expecting.

Hulu to start charing subscriptions is not as bad as it could be, I guess. But it dose mean I should watch everything old in my queue.

I'm working on 4 projects at the same time at work. I've got 1 project at the printer, so have overtakes to worry about; 1 project being sent to a group that needs files to put online; 1 project starting up that will require tracking, paging, PDFing, etc.; and the project I'm helping out with pouring pages for the first time (that one is on the super high deadline that has started the over time again). It hurts my head to have to switch between them all, so I've had to decide when I'm going to work on each one. And not let them overlap. It's training me to ignore emails until I decide to worry about them. Normally I have to deal with each email as it hits my inbox. That bright red badge on the icon saying I've got unread emails really bugs me. But I'm working on that anxiety.

As I said, back to over time, at least until Tuesday. So 10 hour days here and then mall shift tonight and tomorrow night. Makes for getting up too early and long days. I will deal though.

I'm trying to find a local (to my mom) florist for mom's flowers for mother's day. I feel helping out the economy up north is a lot better than using FTD or some other large chain. I've tracked down some phone numbers, now I need to find out which ones will deliver to her.

Dad is retiring soon, like next week or so. I'm not sure what he will do, probably pick up another hobby or two. I'm not sure if they will have a party for him either, hopefully I'll get enough notice to figure out how to get up there for it.

Laura, Jack and Rob are going to mom and dad's this weekend, but it was too short notice for me to make it up also. Pity, I hear Jack is walking all on his own these days.

Joining a new online game. Run by Cass and Gwen, so it should rock. I need to get the wiki and journal set up asap.

And there is the update on my life...
