Yesterday while walking JP I noticed some water bubbling out of the ground along side the road. So I called the city to report it. I'm happy to see this morning a crew out there fixing it. I'm guessing it is part of the watering system for the Dept. of Corrections (who's land the water was pooling on).

I almost worked 60 hours last week, between both part time jobs. I also found out that if I work more than 40 in a week, unemployment won't give me any money. So now I need to figure out if I should keep filing anyway, using up weeks, because I need to do that to keep my "outsourced worker" status. Or if I can stop and then start up again if I loose the post office job. I'm not worried about loosing it because of my performance, but at any time they can decided they don't need the temps and let me go.

I had a few good job leads last week, so here's hoping. I think I need to make some business cards if I'm going to go to more networking events.

The cover letter class at the job center was OK. I got one or two tips that might help. There were five of us plus the presenter, and everyone else was over 50. So we spent lots of time on how to hide your age in the cover letter and talked about a recent article in AARP. Good times.

I think I've got something decent written up for my basic cover letter anyway. I applied to three jobs yesterday with them, we'll see if it works. I'm still planning on having someone look at them, I might to the resume/cover letter review session at the job center yet.

I really need to find the time to go and talk to the schools to get the cost estimates for the TRA program ASAP.

I am really not in the mood to work at the mall tonight. People are pissing my off and I already gabbed a sharp tool into a finger.

I've been reading some books and websites on cover letter writing, figuring that is why I never get any interviews. I just don't understand the style they all suggest. The words and phrases are all empty of meaning and complete crap. Why do HR people want to get this type of a letter? It's just a bunch of me saying I'm awesome and that their company is awesome too. There is nothing of substance in any of the examples. And any details I am adding can also be seen in my resume. I have a class on cover letter writing tomorrow at the Job Center, so we will see what they say.

I've been told that I'm picking up the tasks and procedures at the post office quickly. I'm also the only one of the temp people that will stay until all the mail is sorted. The other two guys leave at 10ish, I've been staying until noon most days. It's more money, which is good.

We had dinner at Samba last night, that's the Brazillian grill here in Madison. We were supposed to go with Jess and Lari for Jess's birthday, but they couldn't get back from Milwaukee in time. Since we had reservations and it is restaurant week (yeah for $10 cheaper), Paul and I went anyway. We'll probably go again with the girls. The food was good as always.

Today I had a nice lunch with [livejournal.com profile] exarian, Pedro's draws 2 names each Monday, and people with those names get up to $10 off their meal. Today was "Jason", so I had a free lunch.

I find myself easily annoyed with people these days. I'm resentful of people I see out having fun, since if I'm doing something I enjoy it usually means I'm up way too late or I'm stealing time I should be using to get a job or something. People who send a lot of money on things I find are pointless annoy me too. That dose include the customers I get that are buying $800 watches. Which is bad, since they are paying my wage.

Tired, very tired. Damn it's hard to type with a band-aid on my finger.

Due to this night schedule thing and messing up my days I've missed an episode of Supernatural. :( I think I can find it on sidereel.com though. Maybe this weekend I will have time to catch up.

I heard music from Glee on the radio this morning, which makes sense since it is popular, but I don't think I've heard it there before.

I only worked 6 hours at the post office last night. I guess the holiday mail season is over, but I will keep working this week. The schedule has me down for 11.5 hours on Christmas Eve, at least.

I'm trying to decide when I need to give up on trying to find a new job in my field and just get a job. Little Ceaser's is hiring store managers and some friends of Jess and Paul's could put in a good word for me. I can also get a job at Walgreens, Jess promised me. Ten years of work out of my college degree is a decent amount. Maybe after the economy picks up again I can get something I'll enjoy again. Hopefully I won't be too far behind then.

It sounds like my parents are having fun with Laura and Jack. I'm looking forward to seeing them on Skype Christmas morning.

Working at the mall this morning, my manager/friend's grandma died this week and he is at her funeral. Tough time for it, but that's always hard. He's done a lot for me here, least I can do.

From various comments that I should apply for the SJ Games job I looked into it more. It is way to close to my current job for me to enjoy it. Not really production as print buying and scheduleing. Keep on looking, I guess...

Steve Jackson games has an opening for a production person. I'd love to. The "Can Not Be Done Remotely" sucks and is stopping me from applying. :(

Also, new icon. And look, James is red like Drew, not alien green like his mommy. Granted that could be new babyness and will change. I assumed he'd get another shade different from the two of them to make family picutres even more of a

My leg hurts and I have no idea why. Getting old...

I'm still very worried about the lack of roommate. I don't want to make Nate think he has to stay just to make sure I'm OK. But I'm running out of ideas on where to find someone. It's worse than dating. Any of my out of town friends want to move? This winter has been totally mild.

The show I really wanted to see this season for Stage Q, the musical A Kiss for Alexander, has now been canceled due to lack of people. Kinda bumbed. Also, I have to do more publicity for the replacement.

Got a email back from one of the places I applied to for a new job. Insty-prints, so I'm not expecting them to offer me enough to switch though.

This amused me... (from [livejournal.com profile] channonyarrow)
