Central air in the house is fixed! Heating & Cooling (one of the oddest company names I've run across--but it is to the point) did a great job. They don't do appointments, but just work down their job listing, so they call you before they are coming over. Which is fine for me since I work 5 minutes from home. The technician actually beat me to my house, but he just started working on it outside. Only the capacitor was broke, which is something that dies occasionally, and mine is probably the original from 2002. Very fast, he had it all repaired and checked withing 35 minutes.

Doesn't it always seem that A/C breaks down before the absolute hottest days of the year?

Mine died before Memorial Day - the whole thing had to be replaced, it was from 1987.

Sunday night the new one "died" again -- turned out a chipmunk had gotten inside the unit and got itself wedged between the blade and housing so it couldn't turn, so the fan motor shut itself off.

There was a fair amount of leaves in our, but no animals fortunately.
