radlilim: (gay podcasts chest)

I finished Murder at Avedon Hill the fantasy mystery podiobook by P.G. Holyfield today. I liked it. I'm still not sure why I didn't get through it the first time I tried to listen to it a few years ago. PG's voice is kinda calming, so maybe there wasn't enough excitement? It's a rice world, a bit low on the magic/fantasy than what I really like, but it was still good. It's hard to write a mystery when some of the characters can read minds. I'd recommend it, and I hope that we get another story with these characters. I'd like to know more about the rest of the world. Grade: A

Thanks!

I'm glad you enjoyed MaAH. It's not often that someone will give something a second try (especially with so much good stuff out there now), so thanks for that. I'm hoping we have a sequel someday as well. :-)

I've found my tastes change with time, at least with podcasts/podiobooks. And my mood has a lot of influence on what I want to listen to, so I generally will give things another shot.

The entire time I was listening I was thinking "Boy, this would make an awesome D&D adventure, when I'm done I'll email him and see if he minded if I wrote it up for my group." And then I read the backstory how it was originally written for Neverwinter nights. Makes sense now. You totally could do this up as a D&D 4e adventure easily enough. There really aren't enough mystery/fantasy mixes out there.

Have you read "The Demolished Man" by Alfred Bester? I found out about it because of the Babylon 5 reference, but it's a murder mystery populated by telepaths. Fascinating read, but I doubt you'll find it in audio. There are sections of it written in visually graphic form.
