Two interesting news stories...

Sad: Mona Lisa destruction attempt.

Fun: Pitcher plant found large enough to eat small mammals (also blue mushrooms and pink ferns)!

Oh, pitcher plants! I loves the pitchers, especially the nepenthes (the hanging pitchers). And if you pay close attention, you'll hear me talk about sundews and butterwarts in CC. Those are also carnivorous.

Carnivorus plants are my favorites, though I prefer the more active ones, like fly traps and sundews than the smelly ones.

Yeah, I thought fly traps were cool until I actually had some and discovered that they're about the size of a kidney bean and more delicate than an orchid. Really not a fun plant to raise, at least not for me. Pitchers, on the other hand are tough, large, and come in bright colors. They also have genuine utility, as they love wasps and will gobble large numbers in the summer. I have never noticed that they smell like anything to a human nose. Sundews look cool. I don't know what they're like to care for, as I haven't had one, but I don't think they eat anything larger than ants, so still lack the wasp-killing factor.
