Jul. 23rd, 2009 04:51 pmI'm enjoying Quarter Share the first book in the Golden Age of the Solar Clipper series by Nathan Lowell. The suggestion was given to me by Abby, the author of one of my favorite podiobook series, Prophet of Panamindorah on the latest episode of her fiction feed.
It's very Joss Whedon's, Firefly, but with less danger/gun fights/cannibles. There are aspects of The Rookie by Scott Sigler too, in the smuggling aspects. I like it because it's very low key. The main characters aren't in mortal danger at all times. It's interesting, in a "the ins and outs of the economy of a futuristic time" kind of way. It is advertised as "a trader's tale", so this isn't a surprise. There is some action and many problems for the characters, it's not dry or boring at all. Its just that all of the action is more financial and intellectual, and less of the getting shot at or mauled by aliens variety. And I'm only 3/4 of the way through the first book. There are two more released already, with another on the way.
