I relistened to Prophet of Panamindora last few days at work. I was able to pick up a few new things. Still one of my favorite podionovels/series. I'd like to find/make the time to do some art. But art for this would take some research and testing, as I've not drawn half-animal people before. I have a few picture layouts in my mind and should at least outline them so I don't forget them. What I need is like 2-3 days off where I don't have anything else to do. A sort of cousin of mine (I forget how we are really realated) spent a few months up north at the cabin at the lake by himself working on writting, and that sounds like heaven right now. Though it wouldn't really work for me, as there is too much family for me to really get time off. It's not like I need or want to leave Madison, I just want time off where I don't have to worry about real life. But who doesn't, right?

Ah, one can dream.

You're sweet. 2-3 days with nothing to do sounds awfully nice.

The main thing that makes my shelts different from the way most people draw fauns is that their pelvis is oriented like a standing creature. Sure, they're digitigrade, but they still have a fairly human shape to their pelvis.

It really bugs me that so many fauns are drawn like a four-legged animal standing on it's hind legs. This makes them very sway-backed and awkward, because their femurs and pelvis are still oriented horizontally, like something designed to run along the ground on all fours. My shelts are evolved to stand on two legs, which means that their pelvis and hip joints are oriented vertically.

Ah, useful information there, thanks!

I really hope I can find the time to work on some pieces. I kinda wanna do all the main characters, but have an idea for a Chance piece.

Well, those would definitely go on the website. :)

I have some ideas for Chance stories beyond Prophet. My tentative concept is that he founds the first really organized police force in Danda-lay (as opposed to the primitive city watch). He has this strong social service instinct that's largely thwarted by the fact that he's a superfluous prince. I might do some mystery-style stories with him in that role. He's got the right personality for it once he grows up a little.

That sounds cool. I like Chance more after the second reading, though that might have something to do with his bed partner preference. :)

Yeah, I think Chance's sense of isolation and loneliness is not fully explained by the events in the story. Being gay is just one more thing that would make him different from his family. In Panamindorah, gay relationships are viewed a lot like inter-species relationships (I mean two shelts of different species). Those pairings don't produce heirs, and that makes them threatening to families in certain situations. There's no religious feeling against gay people, but there's still an inheritance issue, and at this stage of civilization, when a single war or epidemic could bring a city to its knees, there's also a constant fear of depopulation. These issues and fears register in society as prejudice.

Not so much for a younger prince, though. Chance might be welcomed to choose a non-reproductive relationship because it takes him off the board succession-wise. That knowledge would not make him any happier, though.

Chance almost certainly has a little bit of a crush on Laylan. He's desperate for affection, and Laylan has been kind to him and very patient. (Of course, he's paying for that...) Laylan is also older. Chance wants a father figure, and there's a little bit of parental/ child feeling mixed up in that.

Sham/ Chance is an obviously slash-able relationship. It's so obvious that I'm hesitant to do anything with it in canon, but I might. They do get to be friends. Sham is really close to Fenrah. It's a brother-sister kind of relationship, but it's still so close that he feels replaced by Laylan. So, Sham and Chance are both a little threatened by Laylan and Fenrah's romance.

I can see Chance/Sham, though any ideas I have of Chance is Chance/OMC. Just cause I see him keeping that aspect of his life very seperate from anything to do with the war or his public life. Though after Book 3 I can see that.

Now I have Sham/Laylan ideas too. I really need to get around to working on this. You will notice I say that a lot.

I also have this image in my head of Chance flaming and totally decked out a gay pride parade. But that'd be kinda AU, I think. :)

That would be far more likely. Chance is a very private person.

lol. Yeah, that would have to be in some alternate universe.
