I really, really hate the BatchOutput program we use here. It is supposed to cycle through a bunch of files, making print outs or PDFs of the pages. What it dose is get stuck all the time, crash, drop fonts and forget to include images. Waste of time. And this was one of the things I got yelled at for not using. It causes more rework than it saves, I think.

Also, there is snow on the ground. Enough I had to freaking shovel this morning. And B's Bday bash was canceled. Paul was also not feeling well, so he would have bailed anyway. So it was just me braving the weather to play Trivial Pursuit her and Trevor. The one true friend... Trev won, I took second.

Work today until Paul is done with his job, then hang out with girls (maybe?) and then volleyball.

Snow can go away anytime now... I hate this state.

Wow. Sounds like that Batch Output program was written by IOWare. I highly recommend not using it. Seriously, was it coded in-house?

No, it's fairly popular with the InDesign/Book typesetter crowd. Or at least it gets a lot of press. Some here at work swear by it, I'll have to talk to some of them to understand why...

It's fantastic, as long as all of your files are set up perfect before you use it. I've never had a problem with dropped fonts or missing images. I know that when we were having problems with the dropped fonts from the K-4 machine it was that really buggy OTF font every publisher seems to love so much. But yeah, unfortunately there can't be any font or image issues in the files before you run it or it doesn't work properly. :(

Even with everything set up correctly and linked, my GA reading files crash after 8 pages. Every time. At least today and yesterday. SO I let it run that long, and then do the rest by hand. Maybe these files are too big for it to handle?

Hrm. I have a feeling it's something on your machine. You could try running it on a different one, maybe? I would definitely talk to Rod or Jill about it though. Size of files shouldn't matter. We were running it on 20 page files before.

I'll talk to them Monday. Per Jill we need to keep to one machine for these, due to the wackness that the HMH fonts cause and how they work and don't work ranodmly, so I'll just do it by hand as I've been for today.

Snow in late March?

We had a cold snap here. My coworker/lifesaver ;) told me there's a name for that, that translates to "winter hates flowers". It's the time of the year when the cherries and various other trees are supposed to start blooming, and a couple days of near-freezing temperatures are just lousy sportsmanship.

But snow??

The joys of the midwest. It might be gone today, but there was enough that I had to shovel the driveway and deck. This is why we are moving someplace warm.
