So my card wouldn't go though last night when buying the ceiling fan and new door bell at the hardware store. I give them a call this morning and it turns out they suspended my account due to suspicious activity. There were a bunch of charges on my card from a paypal account. One that isn't mine. So the card is canceled and a new one is on the way.

Paul suggested that I look into identity protection. This is the second time in 6 years this account has been used by someone not me--not i9ncluding the time I lost my wallet. Anyone out there use identity protection? Any praise/horror stories for any companies?

Well it's good that the bank caught it. Was it a credit card or a debit card? I have never used an Identity protection service, but I do pay $15/mo to get my credit report every month. They also send me immediate alerts whenever anything is posted to my report. Also, if your information is being used via internet, I would look at getting your computer checked for mal-ware, spy-ware and trojans. Even if you are using your Mac, it is possible for it to get infiltrated. Macs are no longer the shiny beacon of hack-proof hope they used to be.

Credit card. And I buy stuff at work more often than on my home laptop, I think. Though the credit card report is a good idea. Is it email?

Hrm. Well thats distressing. It could mean there is something on your work computer, though we have McCaffey now. Hrm.

Yeah, they email me alerts and I log into Experian and check it online.

I'm thinking my number got picked up once and added to one of those lists people can buy of credit card numbers. Someone just finally bought it and used it. Cause I haven't bought anything online in a long time, months at least.
