radlilim: (gay Hedwig quote)
Filling out those job apps is so trying. They just ask for too much stuff.

I've lost my place as top winner in Killer Bunnies, Jess has now surpassed me. Oh well, can't be good at everything, right?

Rainy day. Tired. Boring/brain-numbing work today too.

I've been starting and then leaving some podcasts/podiobooks lately, seems I'm either getting to the point I've listened to all the good ones out there, or just need to find the new niche to explore. I do have a list I need to check out, so it's not like I'm completely out of content.

However, the latest jewel is Weather Child by Philippa Ballantine. It's a very interesting take on magic. I don't want to spoil it, but the ability to use magic is linked to parasitic existence. It's kinda more like X-men with a biological explanation, than wizards and mana. Ms. Ballantine is a great writer, but in the past I've had a hard time listening, mostly due to her quiet reading style. I don't know why this is one is different, but it is keeping my attention, while on pervious stories it's wandered. The story is based in New Zealand, and so is the author, which is a different local and normal too. What prompted the review is her writing of the POv of the slightly addled character in chapter 8. It's really well done.
