Dec. 3rd, 2010 07:22 pmI had my orientation for the post office job today. Did I mention I have that job? I think so.
It was mostly learning how to lift things and that we should not steal or read the mail. It lasted for 5 hours. We had a brief tour of the floor, which is huge and full of large mail sorting machines and people driving around on folk lifts. Scary place. I have no idea WHAT I'll be doing, we didn't have time to get to that. I guess we'll cover that on Monday. I also don't know what I'm working yet. Just I start Monday. One hopes the rest of the week will be figured out by then. They said at least 40 hours a week, maybe more. There are two types of seasonal jobs, and I'm in the under staffed one. So I guess the overtime will be good. It was badly organized and confusing. I can listen to headphones, which is nice. I'm doubting I will like the work, but that is not why I'm there. I had hoped going to a university and getting a BA was going to keep me from factory work, oh well, life doesn't work that way.
We also have new neighbors. The house next door has been full of renters since I bought mine, but I think the guy that owned it (and originally owned mine) lost it to the bank. So a older gay couple are there now. We've talked a bit, mostly because they wanted to cut down a very large tree in their yard that was like three feet from the house and needed to have the tree cutters go through our driveway/yard to get to it. Hopefully they will be nice neighbors. They don't seem to have a car, but maybe they are retired and don't need one. They were also able to cut out the tree in my yard that got smushed by the snow last winter and was almost laying on their roof, which is good.
We are supposed to get a lot of snow tonight. Very unhappy about this. I hate snow.
