I've started listening to 7th Son, one of the first podcast novels out there. I had started it years ago, but it didn't keep my interest. But since it's a "podcast classic" I figured I'd give it a try again. I like it, Hutchins is a good writer and narrator. It's more spies/mystery than my usual Sci-fi/Fantasy picks, but still good.
I am a little unhappy with one of the characters. This isn't spoilery, as it comes out in the traliers, but one of the seven clones is gay. Which kind of implies that it is more of a choice, vs. a born that way thing. Which bugs me. I'm not though it, and if one of the other clones (or the alpha) shows at least a tiny, tiny bit of same sex interest, I'll not mention this again. But if not, and genetically these men are duplicates, just with different influences and life choices, then it marginalizes being gay, IMO.
I tried to find some discussion boards about this, focused on this story, but couldn't drum up anything. It's not enough to make me quit the podcast, but it bothers me and makes me not enjoy a gay character in a sci-fi/mystery story as much as I'd like. Pity.
