We got out to see Star Trek last night.

I really liked it.

Paul wasn't happy with how they messed with the time line (he liked it overall though), but I think that was shear genius! Now they can have as many movies they want without having to worry about messing with the previous movies or TV shows. Some marketing guy/gal is getting a raise.

The characters and casting was really well done. Kirk, Scotty, and Checkov were awesome. Spock and Sulu did a good job too, though I feel they weren't as true to the original characters. I'm wondering what they will do next. More movies? A new TV show? If the later I doubt they will be able to get those actors, which will be a let down.

I'll be buying it, I think.

Trevor and I both had some issues with the time travel thing, but we were both quite willing to overlook it. And, if Trevor is willing to overlook it that's HUGE. At least in my book.

Anyways, yes, I would love to see more movies, and you're absolutely right, they don't have to really hold to the original cannon, which was, kind of, the point. It could still go bad though, so I don't want them to do too much. I would like to see them take their time, like they did with this one, and make sure it's solid before moving forward.

I love the altered timeline angle for the same reasons- cause it allowed them to stay true to a lot of the origins while putting a new spin on them. I hope this turns into a continuation of the movie franchise. Overall, I like the changes they made with everyone, though I think Sulu was given the least of all attention, even if he had more face time than Scotty did. He was the only one I felt you really didn't get a good feel for by the time the whole thing was over. I loved everyone else, though.

I agree on Sulu. Also McCoy seemed to take 4th seat behind Uhora, which just isn't right. And was it just me, or was Checkov a lot smarter in this universe?

It's really cool that the movie is good enough that characterization can be picked apart, instead of huge plot holes, imo.

I think McCoy and Uhura got decently equal face time since one factored in heavily to Kirk's backstory and the other to Spock's. And see, I don't even remember that much of Chekov from TOS so I don't know. I did love what they did with him, though. You could so tell he was like, the young whiz kid. And in an awesome non Wes Crusher type way.
