A bit behind on my book reviews.

Preston's Take, a short story by R.E. Chamblis, is a good background story to her novel Dreaming of Deliverance. The intro says that it's stand alone, and I'd agree, but without the background of the full novel, I'm not sure I'd really care about Lindsay much at all.

I was really impressed with the change in writing style she did for this one from her other novels. It shows great range. And now I know what happened to put Lindsay in the situation she is at the beginning of the novel.

One of the latest Scott Sigler short story collaborations The Detective was a good tie into to the space football series. I read it a few weeks ago and by now individual events are escaping me, but the story has merged into the rest of the world in my mind. It was nice seeing another author’s take on Sigler’s world.

I was super excited and very impatient for the newest Iron Druid book Trapped by Kevin Hearne to come out, and I wasn’t disappointed. It gave us even more back story and mythos of the world, along with new mythological groups and lots of action. I did not mind the 12 year break between the last one, though it is hard to put it that far in the future, as the daily lives of your average person does not seem that different than now, and 12 years is a lot of advancement in the modern world, IMO. But loved it anyway.

Rating: A

I know I should reread Jealousy Glass, Gwen Perkins 2nd novel, since it’s been a while since I did and I’m not sure what might have changed since I did read it (pre-publication, I think). But it is a great ride. Lots of new people and culture to experience in her world. Lots of intrigue and action. Lots of tension, sexual and otherwise. If you liked the first one this one will keep you hooked.
