Jul. 16th, 2007 09:38 amThe weekend was just awesome, thanks to
madidude04. (Icon is a totall rip off of one of
diamond_dust06's that I've always loved. Hope you don't mind hun)
Friday I got out of work early, due to lack of work. But only a few hours short for the week, so the paycheck shouldn't be affected much. Went and had a few beers with
exarian at Glass Nickel. Paul got off work early, so we went home and relaxed for a bit until we got hungry late and went downtown to a Japanese fusion restaurant call Morimoto. The food was good, though Paul spent the usual time critiquing the service/restaurant/food.
Saturday we over slept and headed down to the Art Fair on the Square an hour later than planned. After a bit of cruising we decided that there was no parking to be found and decided to skip it. We drove up to the Wisconsin Dells after grabbing a quick bite to eat on the way out of town. We hit up Noah's Ark for 5 hours or so. Paul had never been to the Dells, so we went to the most well known of the attractions there. Lots of sun, floating, water sliding and talking. The new Time Warp ride was totally worth the 45 minute wait.
We wondered up and down the main strip looking for food for a bit until Paul decided he wanted to do the panning for gemstones activity at a rock shop. I thought it was kinda lame, but decided to humor him. There were a bunch of different priced buckets of san, ranging in price from $18 to $120. We did the $28 one. After shifting through the sand we came up with about two handfuls of rocks. The lady at the counter then went over what we had found. I was really surprised to discover that we had a lot of semi-percious rough gems. Rubies, emeralds, sapphires, etc. We think we will go to a rock shop (probably Bernie's on Johnson) and have them cut and put into matching rings or something.
After that we decided to go to Ginza of Tokyo for dinner, as Paul always liked the one in Madison. The service and experience was horrible. No more dwelling, we have decided to forget about that period to not sour the weekend.
I had heard about the one gay bar in the Dells from a friend in Madison and we decided to see if we could find it. After a long ride down a road that was barely two cars wide we see the rainbow sign for Captain Dix. The drive way is not much wider than one car and waves though some trees and rocks into a valley of condos/cabins. As we are walking though the parking lot (gravel) someone tells us that if we don't have a squirt gun, don't go in. We try it any way and find a dive/local/hick looking bar, 'cept it is gay. The local homos are friendly, Paul spends most of the time hiding behind me not to get squirted with water and after a drink we drive home. We have tentitive plans to go back to the dells, do some other things, and maybe stay at the gay resort that is located there.
Sunday we woke up in time to meet some of Paul's college friends and a gay couple that is his friend's friend for brunch at the Concourse. It was really good. Good food, it was one of those extended brunches where they give prime rib, crab and custom omelets. Plus it was a champaign brunch, so the mimosas were included.
Since we had missed it the day before and had already paid for a full day's parking, we walked the Art Fair on the Square. It was nice to walk and talk with Paul, I have a better idea on what style/design he likes now. We picked up a totally sweet clock that matches my living room to a T. A matching candle holder was purchased also, and we got a discount because the artist liked Paul's "I Wish I Knew How To Quit You" T-shirt and wanted to take a picture of his chest.
We wasted some time walking down State Street and then headed home to put up the new clock and get ready for volleyball. We won all three games again, still undefeated. Played some pickup after until it was time to head home for a shower and then to Club 5. The Barrack''s Bar, which is located behind Club 5 and is the "Leather Bar that plays graphic gay porn" was having a drag show. Unlike most drag shows where the purpose is for the contestants to look pretty and like women, this was a Scag Drag show. Where they were not expected to shave off their beads or anything. It was freaking hilarious! Had a great time (there was one snag, and I won't mention it except to say I'm sorry, again) and then we went home. Paul's shoulders were burnt and he had slept weird the previous night so I gave him a back message with aloe while watching Finding Nemo.
It was a very nice weekend.
