Feb. 23rd, 2006 12:54 amI'm writing this on the flight from Fort Myers to Detroit, I'll post it when I get home. I'm a touch tipsy from the 2 double gin and tonics I had at the airport, but that just makes it easier for me to check out the cute guy in my row. If his mom would just trade seats with him... oh well.
Vacation was awesome! Many, many thanks to
anothersuperboy for letting me come and visit. He was a real sport letting me take him out of his home and going out in the nature with me. The sun was good for him, no matter how much bitching he gives about the arm.
He picked me up late Sunday night. The flights down were good, even running a bit early. Monday we got up late and had breakfast at Cracker Barrel. First time I've eaten there, even if we do have them in Madison. Then we did some attraction searching and decided to head to Napels to see the zoo. After 2 hours in traffic (the trip should have taken 30 minutes), we pulled a U-turn and headed back to Ft. Myers. We decided to head over to Sanibel island instead. We found a cute little cafe with a lighthouse theme (grandma would have loved it). The food was really good there, I had a sea food salad. I picked up a christmas ornament with the Florida lighthouses for grandma for next Christmas and then we walked about a third of a mile to the beach. Waded for a bit, got some pictures of the one cute boy (and this was a rare occurrence, the ages were either 6 or 60 at most of the beaches) and the lighthouse (pictures will come later). We drove up the island a bit while waiting for the traffic to die down and I made him drive us through the wildlife sanctuary there. Lots of cool birds and trees. Stupid drivers, but everyone there is old, so what do you expect. Dinner was some good fish (the name escapes me) at a local seafood chain.
Tuesday we slept late again and then headed to Mimi's cafe for late breakfast (I had a crab and avocado omelet). We went up the coast this time to Sarasota to a Marine wildlife research center. It turned out the be the same one that I had went to with Wendy, Drew, Scott and Dana three years ago when we went, but it was still fun. The slash/harry potter/X men talk on the way there and back was fun though. We have a ton of good ideas for fics, art and games, and missed a few exits on the way. Dinner was actually late lunch at a seafood grill place that is like Outback Steak house. We'll probably see them up north in a few years. Relaxed at home (since I had been dragging him all over up till then) and watched some TV. The Aquaman ep of Smallville was bad, but not nearly as fucked up as Sugar. It was good to finally see it (i.e. Brenden Fehr's ass), but it will be going off my amazon.com list asap. I also scored a Ravenclaw T-shirt, and copies of Prom Queen and Bortsel Boys which I will watch soon, I hope.
Wednesday we got up earlier since it was the short day and went back to Sanibel island, but instead of going back to the southern beach we went north again to the second island over there, Captiva. We drove to the northern most point and parked at a public beach where we walked up and down the beach, talked, swam and bought hot dogs and ice cream from a guy on a pontoon boat. Lunch was at a pizza/grill bar on the way home. We chilled out for the hour until I had to go to the airport and watched the Kid Flash ep of Smallville, which I liked.
All in all, a great time. Relaxed, got sun, had great food and awesome company. I'll have to go back again soon!
I get one more night in my new bedroom (bringing the total to two) before I drive north and cheer mom on in the Birkenbinder marathon this weekend. Busy, busy still. Can't wait for some chilling time at home.
