Well, we have a Wii. Paul spent all morning calling every store that might carry it within 50 miles of Madison. He finally tracked one down at a used electronics/game store. We aren't really pleased to have a used one, but there is a 30 day guarantee and he has decided to take the bullet and play non stop for a month to make sure nothing is wrong. What a trooper.

It is his Christmas present, but since we discussed it and he knows thats what he's getting, we decided that we'd try and find one early before they are all sold out around Christmas. Thanks to the marketing plan of upping demand Nintendo is doing, that almost didn't work. But he will also have it to keep him occupied while I am up north for Thanksgiving. I'm not hunting this year either, for various reasons. Like, 1) I would like to see Paul that weekend, 2) Wendy and Drew will be in town, and 3) I can put in overtime that weekend, since that will be the time when [livejournal.com profile] exarian's printer deadline will be closing in on us.

It remains to see if I will become a hardcore Wii player or not. I enjoy it, but I'm really not that good at video games, or at least at ones that you can't buttonmash at. And there is no buttonmashing on the Wii. Hopefully the new Supersmash Bros. will be fun. Maybe I can get into the Wii sports too.

Any flist people have good Wii games to suggest?

Leaving work early today (still after 8 hours) so we can make it up to the Dells for the March of Dimes dinner. Hope that will be fun.

Paul would probably like Rayman: Raving Rabbids. I'm also told that Zelda was pretty fun. Also, there are regular controllers out for the Wii. You have to buy them separately, but they exist.

He dose like that game, Jess has it. I'm sure it'll appear soon.

I still am not sure if they allow button mashing on a regualr controller, but even if so Paul will flip out ;)

The sports game for the Wii (with the golf and bowling and all that) is a lot of fun, especially if you play with others. And even if you suck, it's still a riot.

Elebits is a lot of fun, though I'm told the last few levels get frustratingly hard. It's a wacky tear-the-house-apart sort of game that really takes advantage of the Wii controls, in a weird FPS-sort of way, if you were shooting things with a sort of gravity gun that you had to charge up for heavier weights by zapping adorable electro-aliens. The controls are completely different, but it has a feel a lot like that of Katamari Damacy in style, if you liked those games.

I have a copy of the Marvel Ultimate Alliance game, but haven't played it much. It's Diablo-like in playstyle (wander around killing things, occasionally get plot points), with the main features being that you get to play a lot of classic superheroes and unlock new costumes for dressing them up. The controls are a little frustrating, but not horrible.

The 'Wii Play' set of minigames is mostly good if you expect to do a lot of four-person playing with other people; played alone, it stops being very interesting pretty fast, but the competitive aspect is nice. And it does come with another controller. I was slightly less impressed with the Wii Sports that new consoles come packaged with, but it's basically more of the same, except real sports instead of...racing cows, and stuff.

And if anyone knows how the sort of sim town game for the Wii is, I want to hear too, because it looks cute but I don't own that one yet.

Check out the Virtual Console. Lots of awesome old-school action there, and probably a number of button mashers.

Please please please bring the wii home for Thanksgiving. Paul won't mind. Do you realize out family Thanksgiving dinner will only involve 6 people this year?!?! We need some entertainment!

The reason we got it early is so he's not too lonely while I'm gone. We will bring it to Christmas, we can have Wii parties at your place.

I'll ask him, but don't hold your breath.
