Wow, there went a month without posting.

Which pretty much explains what December was about. Working too much, stressed and exhausted. Overall things are well, just tired and no time off. I had the 24th and 25th off from both jobs, which I think hadn't happened in a month and a half. Hoping for full days off again in January. Enjoying B&N still, good people, understanding bosses. Omnipress is a lot of work still, working on changing processes that need fixing, and getting myself and other new people trained. Still appreciated for what I bring.

Christmas was low key, just Paul and I relaxing at home with the dogs. Holiday bash at Blythe's was fun as always. Rough next morning though. Going to Heidi's tonight for an at home, low key, games and drink New Year's party.

Will get up north to see the family early January for Dad's birthday. Been too long since I've seen grandma. That needs to happen soon.

Got through Black Friday at B&N. Not bad. I was at the Nook desk all, day, but only had an 8 hour shift, which was nice. The initial rush at 5am (which I was there for) was pretty anti-climatic. We sold three Nooks. But it picked up through the day, keeping us busy. Customers were pretty nice all day, no crabby ones. Worked Saturday and Sunday as well. Long weekend, was happy to get back to work on Monday, at least I get to sit at my full time job.

The porch has been decorated and we got the tree up this weekend as well. I drove up to Plover on Saturday before work and met mom for lunch. Nice having Christmas things up, last year we didn't since we had moved in right on Thanksgiving and it was just too much.

Thanksgiving meal was fun as always. B had it, we provided potatoes (made in the crock pot, so easy), stuffing, pumpkin muffins and a cake. Went home kind of early, as Paul was feeling sick.

Coming up weekend will be my company holiday party, which was good last year, so here's hoping.

Christmas was low key, as I was hoping. I got to read a lot, watched some movies. Christmas night we went over to Blythe's to hangout, drink wine and play games. I was hoping to talk to my mom or my sister, but we just couldn't make that happen. Pity.

Gonna be a weird week at work, not a lot of people here, so I will be jumping around a lot helping where needed. Case in point, spent the day today assembling books for a late rush order.

I'm hoping to still get to see the Hobbit this week, but we will see,

I've been realizing this year that I really don't like the end of the year holidays much anymore. When I was a kid, Thanksgiving ment a week off of school, hanging out with my dad, uncles and boy cousins hunting, and then a big Kivela side dinner. Christmas was more focused on my mom's side, with everyone coming home to Wisconsin. It was great. Even post college was fun, cause I still went up there.

But the last 5 years or so, all of my family has slowly spread out more. Usually we don't have enough money to buy people gifts (which I know isn't the point, but I was always good at picking out things people really liked, and I enjoyed doing that). And lately we either can't afford to travel, or one or both of us have to work right around it.

It's awesome that I have great friends that invite us to Thanksgiving dinner, so we aren't alone. And that I can still Skype with my parents and sister's family (since they are usually in Saudi Arabia). But it's not the same. All November and December mean to me now is cold, snow and being busy with work.

I miss what I used to have.

Christmas with my family went well. I drove up Friday night with my cousin, who dropped me off at my parent's house. We had good food and saw family and friends. Highlights:

- I've been working on a brochure for the Heritage Center in my home town, the board liked my work and I have a few edits to make.
- I got out skiing with my mom, dad and uncle a few times. Saturday was OK, not quiet enough snow though. And on Sunday the snow had melted a bit, making one's skis slip all over the place, it was not fun. We also saw a huge coyote while out in the woods.
- Dad liked the kevlar chaps me and my sister got him. He needs them to protect his legs when cutting Christmas trees with a chainsaw.
- Got to skype with Laura, Jack and Rob. They are flying to Shuri Lanka this week. Jack showed us his summer-saulting skills. He also did a great job trimming the tree, putting all of the same color decorations together, matching the colors like he's been learning.
- I got X-Men 1st Class and some work shirts, which was nice.
- And I got to take a sauna, it's been too long.

This week I think will be busy through Wednesday, then dead. And I've been trying to get things done all morning, but all of my clients are slow getting me answers and/or data and thus I'm spending a lot of time waiting.

We had a great time on Saturday at our friend's Jeremy and Chad's house. Other years they have had a ginger bread decorating party, but after a few years of that it seems that new and interesting house ideas are becoming scarce. So this year they made large, like 8 inch long, ginger bread men to decorate. There were 9 people there, some we knew, some we just met. Jeremy is a interior design major, so their house is always amazing. The food was good too. We brought the pugs, and they seemed to have an OK time as well. There were 5 dogs total, which is a lot, but after a hour or so of crazy running around, they all clammed some. Remy spent most of the night next to me or in my lap, he's not too social yet. And JP peed on Jeremy's fabulous tree. They weren't upset, they have a pug too, but I was mortified.

Sunday Paul tried to buy us the cheap HP TouchPads, but the internets denied him. I went and played the last night of volleyball for this season. I played well, had a blast. I think out team ended up 2nd over all.

Good weekend all and all.

The last few days have been filled with email server and spam filter headaches. They seem to be mostly figured out, but I am not a fan of those things right now.

Been busy at work again though, which is good. Mostly last minute, "OMG we have to get the site live NOW!" and "Oh, we didn't tell you about that aspect, yeah sorry, get on that now?" and "I know it's 4:55 there, but I'm on the West Coast, so if you can get that done today?" I don't really mind. I like feeling needed and helpful. And the occasional long day means a long lunch or leaving a bit early on a different day.

I got my Christmas gift off to Jack already. Laura won't give it to him until they are on the plane. They are spending Christmas in Sri Lanka (I think). I made him a comic style eBook. It's formatted to display well on their iPad. It's about how Uncle Jason misses Jack, so he flies to see him. Then the two of them take some magical flying toys to visit the rest of their families. Hoping he likes having a book with him in it.

My family Christmas will be a week from this weekend. My cousin Nate is going up that weekend, so that makes 2 grandkids in Brantwood at the same time, which is the largest gathering of family we'll have. Paul can't get out of work, which sucks. But it will be nice to see grandma and everyone again.

Yesterday Paul and I drove halfway to my parent's house and met mom and grandma for lunch. They also gave us our Christmas tree. It was nice seeing them and we figured out when we'd be celebrating Christmas. Paul has to work that weekend though, so he won't make Christmas with my family.

We got back home and decorated the tree while watching White Christmas, Paul's favorite holiday movie. We were up pretty late (due to some trips needed to get new lights, last year's had died). But the tree is decorated. Next we will see if we can figure out how to put lights up outside the house, even though there are no outlets on the outside of my house. (Another reason my house kinda sucks.)

I just finished the latest story by Chris Lester in his Metamore CIty world. It was a take on The Christmas Carol, using the characters in his world. The "Scrooge" character was more of the dedicated to his work sort than miserly. I was really excited to see the first episode post, since that is my favorite holiday tale. But then the episodes lagged, the last one was posted last week, and I was afraid we wouldn't get the ending. But we did, and I'm happy with it. I really liked when he'd use exact text from the original in his tale.

Still no word/call from Quad. I'm getting discouraged. I'll call them tomorrow afternoon to see if they can tell me anything.

The 11.5 hours I had been scheduled to work Christmas Eve turned into like 7, so I was home plenty early. I woke up early enough this morning to take care of JP before my bro-in-law called and then I got online with skype and talked to mom, dad, Laura, Jack and Rob for a while. They seem to be having a good vacation.

Paul made potato and cheese soup and pastashio encrusted chicken for Christmas dinner. In an hour or so we are off to [livejournal.com profile] exarian's with cinnomon rolls for games and drinks. Not a bad Christmas, really.

I have tomorrow off from the post office off, but will go into the mall for a bit to help with returns. Then it's D&D with the girls.

I had another short shift last night at the post office. I'll still get 40 hours in this week, since I work 6 days, but I'd like more hours. Just not enough mail. I get Christmas day off, and the day after. I have somethings to do around the house, hopefully I can get them done. And work at the mall Sunday morning and finally play D&D again that night.

I'm still looking forward to the Supernatural Anime, especially since it looks like Jensen and Jared host the DVD. I wonder how long until we can get it in the states.

My managers at the post office seems to have figured out I can be trusted to think and understand directions. I'm being given more things to do without supervision. I ended up putting in 51 hours my first week (in only 5 days). The work weeks there start on Saturday, so yesterday was the beginning of a new week. Still going well.

We got the tree decorated, Paul did a great job. We even have a few presents under it already.

I was supposed to work at the mall today, but due to the cold and snow the entire mall was closed. So it was just me, Paul and the puppy hanging out today. Had to clear away the snow, of course, but otherwise it was relaxing.

The Christmas episode of Glee was great. Had me tearing up in parts.

Talking to Laura on Skype tomorrow. It will be nice to catch up. Mom and Dad fly out to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday. We still need to work out the Skype plans for Christmas day so we can see them. We are booked to visit Paul's family for four days in January too. That will be a nice trip, I hope.

Apparently I'm pretty good at audio editing, at least that is what [livejournal.com profile] fanaus said. Or I did a good job for a beginner. I hope to work on more of that this month, during my "free time."
