Got a promotion at work again. No more money, yet, but my last raise wasn't too long ago, and I'd expect another one in a few months.

But now I'm the Fulfillment Manager. No longer just in charge of the systems, now I work on the whole ware house, including process improvements, layout and staff. That's right, I am now in charge of people. A bit scary, as I've never managed people before. Our management has tons of faith in me, and the people now reporting to me all seem OK with it. And the company is sending me to a leadership/management class in February at the UW.

So we will see how this goes.

Not sure I'll get my reading bingo done for this year. I'm a little over half way done with It. It's good, just long, and I'm pretty busy and can't read for long periods of time. And I still have 1 more book after that. Will probably sign up for it again next year though (and will try and finish out this year's plan, even if I don't make the deadline).

Holiday working at B&N is rough, but I'm doing more receiving now, which is a) interesting (and relevant to current job) and b) means I don't have to deal with customers as much.

We are pretty much set in the new place. Some of our furniture/stuff doesn't fit. So as we have money we'll have to replace some things.

And my car was broke for like 4 weeks. Finally fixed, and it feels so good to be independently mobile again.

Car update, turns out the adjuster looked at it Tuesday, approved the claim and told the shop to start work. The shop says my car should be ready tonight.

All very cool. However, it'd have been nice for someone along that process to have called me. I called the claims department Wednesday to check in, since I hadn't heard from anyone and got that update. It's a good thing I did call, cause the claims dept. sent me a check Wednesday as well. But it was only made out to me, so even if I had gotten it in time, I won't have had time to cash it, and thus could not pick up my car.

Fortunently the customer service person was able to stop payment on that check and pay the shop directly. So that is sorted out. Good customer service from State Farm, BTW.

Work is still really stressful. There is a soft open on Monday, for select Beta testers, and the full open is Oct. 16th. While the site looks fine and functions, the orders are not being sent to the system for printing and shipping yet. I have tried like 5 solutions, and none of them totally work. I'm running out of creativity. I will try and work this weekend, and I'm hoping I have an Ah-Ha moment and we can get it done before we let the masses in.

It's been an interesting week.

I took Tuesday off form work to wait for a home gym to be delivered. Paul has less time to go to the gym now with school, so this is an option for working out at home. But the gym was in three packages weighing over 300 lbs. I did not want to have to pick it up from the front office. So I waited at home all day for it, then put it together that afternoon. The morning I was able to get a lot done on my cousin's bakery website and do updates for next year's Milmaids Bowling tournament website. (Thanks to my friends who took a look at the bakery site.)

Wednesday I took a half day off work for my first day at Barnes & Nobel. It was fine, half off Starbucks is going to be a bad temptation. I have my next shift then next Thursday. I'm liking the "borrow a book" policy, so that workers can be up to speed on new books coming out.

Thursday we had a really bad storm. It rained like 2 inches in like 2 hours. I left the apartment at 5:20ish to go to work at the mall, not raining. By the time I was at the intersection to get into the mall, 20 minutes later, it had rained so much that the water was up to the headlights on the cars, you couldn't see the medians and there were cars stalled everywhere. My car sputtered a bit, but I made it in.

I tweeted a pic

Friday my car started acting up. After about 5 minutes of driving, the engine temp would sky rocket, topping out around 290F. I left early from work and took it to the shop. It turns out the water on Thursday had gotten high enough that it reached my cooling fan. The fan speed combined with hitting the water cause all three fan blades to sheared off, sending them flying into my radiator, and putting a hole in it. So today I am car-less, Paul brought me into work, but flood damage is covered by my car insurance, so it should be fully covered. Waiting to hear back.

Might need a ride into work on Monday though.

All though this was work. So stressful and busy there. Huge project with a looming deadline. We are making good progress, but I'm not sure we will finish in time. Going to have to put in some hours form home this weekend.

Tonight we are off to a house warming party for a co-worker of Paul's, which will be fun. I also have a growing list of art to work on, need to get on that, ASAP.

We've been busy.

First off, the story of my car. The Saturn I've had for like 10 years has been needing repairs every few months. The latest would have been around $1200, including new breaks (things one can't just ignore). So we started looking at a replacement car, on the off chance that a car payment would be less than repair bills have been. Last week Paul found a used car on CarSoup.com, we decided to test drive it Wednesday after work. We go there at 5:30 and by 8:30 I had a new car. I had no idea it could move that fast. We both expected the banks to take longer than that. It turns out we were at the largest dealership in the area, so they have banks waiting on hold, or something. I have a 2008 Chevy HHR with only 40,000 miles on it. Lots of features. We took it up to my parents house this weekend and it was nice to drive.

Which leads me to the vacation. It was generally nice, I'm feeling a bit rested. But it was full of odd comings and goings. After buying the car Paul said he felt like just driving up that night, instead of the next day like planned. So at 1am we left home and drove some 4.5 hours north. I slept and he drove my new car. We napped most of Thursday and then in the afternoon he left (with my car again) to go another 1.5 hours to his conference. Me and the puppies stayed at my parent's place.

Friday I saw some neighbor friends, and my grandma and aunt. Then I drove back south to the Wisconsin Central Airport to pick up my mom and dad, who were flying back from Saudi Arabia after visiting my sister for 2 weeks. They had some jet lag (23 hour flight) and again we rested.

Saturday mom and I went skiing (OMG, like 5 miles of skiing, my legs hurt so much) and then I borrowed mom's car to go and meet Paul at his conference for his awards banquet. He landed some plaques and medals and then we drove back to my parent's house. We got there at about 11pm and had sauna (latest sauna I've ever had).

So Sunday we had lunch with the family and then drove back to Madison. I got to make it to volleyball, which was nice. And then I got everything unpacked.

Today I'm still off of work, so plan to get some chores done before I have to go back to work tomorrow. I'm not quiet ready for that yet, I'd like more time off.

I am more than thrilled with the service/work done at DBS Service Center on the corner of Cottage Grove Rd. and Atlas Ave. here in Madison. They've always given me good prices and excellent service. This time my car needed the valves in the transmission replaced. They quoted me $800, and calling around that was about average. It ended up costing me only $675! That's $125 UNDER the quote. Who dose that? I love those guys, they rock.

Car is broke again. I can still drive it, but the valves need to be replaced on the transmission, and if it goes too long, it can ruin the entire transmission. Of course it costs too much for us to easily fix. It should be OK for trips to work and home. But I'm doubting I can get up north to mom and dad's this weekend like planned.

Damn. I thought we had enough things break on us this year. Guess not. I'm still wondering what I did to earn this much bad luck.

I'm betting my dad could fix it for a lot cheaper, but getting the car up there to him is the issue.

I wonder if 2011 will be as bad. Probably.

It's 8:07 and I already want to quit today.

Driving home from work last night I noticed one of my tires is low. So this morning I check it and it's pretty flat, I hobble to the closet gas station to try some air, but it doesn't take any. So while I'm taking everything out of my trunk to get my tire changing supplies, the head mechanic there tells me that I really shouldn't be doing that in their lot for liability reasons. Now I'd been there for like 5 minutes and was probably 10 minutes from being done. So I pack up my stuff and drive 50 feet down the road. I probably would have left the tire there to be fixed, but if he's gonna be an ass, he gets no work from me. My favorite garage dose do tire repair, so after they've taken the screw out of it and patched it, I'll drive over and pick it up. Should only be $20-25.

And now I've got more work piled onto my all ready over schedule job. I'm missing the deadline by a week as is, and now they are adding an entire new 5 grade project to it. And the new stuff will have even more for me to do.

Yesterday's holiday lunch at work was yummy. Ate too much.

Last night at the Green Owl, a new vegetarian cafe here, we had a good time. Service was slow, but the food was good. We will probably head back there soon, and the prices were reasonable.

Then we exchanged presents, I got a new 2-5 player game, Small Worlds, which looks like fantasy rsik, with many different races. Paul got the Serenity/Firefly role-playing game. The girls and him are turning into such gamers.

Yep, I don't trust the Saturn dealership. Might stop going there for oil changes even. They quoted $360 to fix a major belt in the car. The garage down the road is doing it for $100. :eye roll:

I get great enjoyment out of reading the [livejournal.com profile] ask_captainjack (Ask Captain Jack -- a spoof where Jack from Torchwood answers questions sent in by fans) and [livejournal.com profile] ask_aboutcoffee (Ask Abotu Coffee -- another spoof where Ianto basically complains about being in Torchwood and dating Jack) blogs. Today Jack was discussing Harry Potter:

"Harry's best friends are Ron, Bella, Dumbledore and Robert Pattinson. Robert Pattinson and Harry are on the Quidditch team together. (A secret you learn about RPattz later is that he's a vampire. He sparkles by wand-light. I squee when it happens and you will too.)"

lulz!

Took the car into get an oil change this morning. And of course they found a ton of things "wrong" with it again. I guess my serpentine belt is cracked and needs to be replaced? Of course that will cost like $400. I think I will take it in to one or two other garages and get more opinions and estimates. The discrepancy with the last issue still has me not believing the Saturn dealership. I also need new tires, but that one I agree with. Need to start saving and shopping around for them.

Either that or win some contest for a new car.

The plan for today is I get to print out some pages for someone's job. Wheeee.

I'm also going to work on my presentation for the next InDesign Users meeting, I'm showing them how to do GREP searches, using mostly [livejournal.com profile] cavlec's training materials back form my Impression's days. Work might not make me feel good about my career, but being in a group of people who will ask me for advice and help is a nice reminder I'm not an idiot.

I watched some Supernatural last night, got through "Violence and Sex". I like the plot lines still, though I'd like more of Sammy's powers, I'm sure that'll show up more towards the end. It is nice to see that sometimes they still have the non-apocalypse episodes with the old humor threaded in.

So, my car seems to have "fixed itself".

I didn't know they did that. I have the sedan version of KIT. It appears to have been a "electrical glitch" and it sorta reset itself on Friday, and all is well.

Total cost: $79

Much better than the $4,000 quoted at Saturn. I'm happy I got a second opinion. Now I just have to walk in the freezing rain to get it so I can drive to the mall. I'm very happy I don't have to try and make a bus.

My stress level has gone down quite a bit.

I'm really frazzled today. I just have everything that I need to do this month running though my head. Between car, house stuff, gifts, travel, insurance, etc., just too much. I had hoped making a list of everything would help, sometimes organization can settle my head, but not so much. Maybe if I started planning what day I'll go everything... we will see.

Being productive at work regardless. My project is with the client, so helping on another person's job.

Who knew Robert Pattinson could write music and sing?

Volleyball pick-up games was fun again last night. However I have a huge blister on one of my big toes now, I think I need new shoes. We also put together a new coat rack last night, we both feel that it opens up the kitchen a ton and looks so much better. Lari came over after hockey and we played Scene it on the Xbox. Everyone gets their own remote, so its kinda cool.

Car is at the transmission shop today, so Paul had to drive me into work. I hope that I hear back today and there is only something small worn and they can fix it in time for me to go to work at the mall. I can dream, right?
